Cadillac One: The Most Prominent Limo

A limousine is truly a symbol of luxury and power, ideal for VIPs. Perhaps the most prominent and best featured limo is those of the American presidents. Taking a look at a high-profile limo like Barack Obama’s 2009 Cadillac, we will discover just how much research and great workmanship has been given to this very special car. In truth, it is the first presidential limo that do not have a specific model name for the big three manufacturers have worked together to create the black limousine.

The Secret Service has closely coordinated with Cadillac as to security specifications they want for the presidential limo. Although there are no clear information on this matter for security reasons, we can easily surmise that it may have armor plating, which may be at the very least 5 inches thick. Like the former first limos, it will also have bullet-proof windows, can run on flat tires and a well sealed interior that can protect the president in the vent of a chemical attack.

It has been said half an inch transparent armor can easily stop a .44 Magnum round shot at point-blank. By increasing its width to 1 ¼  to 1 ½ inches, it can stay intact even with higher velocity bullets from military assault rifles. These security measures were in place ever since the assassination of JFK.

Many speculations have been going around as to the features of this very high profile car. Cadillac has already previously discussed about a 10 disc CD player and leather interiors, that were meticulously hand stitched. Cadillac One can speed up from zero to 60 mph in just 15 seconds. Moreover, its armor plate underneath can withstand blast from tanks. This may be why the media calls the car “the beast" because it weighs more than 5,000 pounds.

As to maintenance cost and gas mileage, speculations say it is considerable since the limo can easily withstand even a direct asteroid hit. However, some people have heard the distinct hum of a diesel burning car engine which may mean a low gas mileage.

For sure, Cadillac One has come a long way from the horse buggy ridden by William Taft. General Motors is considered a favorite of the White House since the car manufacturer built the presidential limousines since 1983.  With the most powerful person in one of the most powerful nation in the world, no less than an elegant limousine complete with the most modern features will do.
